Invoicing tips for actor invoice template

  • Separate your performance day rate from usage/buyout — productions pay extra for broadcast, digital, or extended-term rights.
  • If you're represented, note the agency and the commission so payment routing is clear.
  • Indicate SAG-AFTRA vs. non-union status; union jobs follow scale and have their own payment processors.
  • Bill overtime and additional shoot days as distinct lines using your stated hourly and daily rates.
  • Provide a W-9 with your EIN or SSN since productions issue 1099s — list your tax ID on the invoice to avoid payment delays.

Actor Invoice Template invoice FAQ

What is a usage or buyout fee on an actor invoice?

It's a separate charge for the right to use your performance — by media (broadcast, web), region, and time period. It's billed on top of your session/day rate; the template includes a dedicated line.

How do actors handle agent commission on invoices?

Note the agency and commission rate (often 10–20%). Many productions pay the agency directly, who then deducts commission and pays you. List the details so routing is clear.

Do actors get a 1099?

Yes — non-employee acting work over $600 is reported on a 1099-NEC. Include your EIN or SSN on the invoice and provide a W-9 so the production can issue it.

Should actors charge sales tax?

Performance services are generally not subject to sales tax. Confirm with your state, but most acting and voice-over work is exempt.
