Do I charge sales tax on a band performance?
Live entertainment is taxed differently by state. Some treat performances as taxable amusement services; others exempt live music. Check your state and any local amusement tax, and apply it only where required.
How does the deposit and balance work?
Most bands collect a non-refundable deposit to hold the date, then the balance on or before the event day. Show the deposit as a paid credit on the invoice and the remaining balance with its due date.
Will event clients or venues issue a 1099?
A venue, planner, or company that pays your act $600 or more in a year may request a W-9 and issue a 1099-NEC. Decide whether you invoice under the band's business name and EIN or as individuals, and stay consistent.
Should overtime and special requests be billed separately?
Yes. List each added hour and any custom song learning or extra set as its own line so the client sees what they are paying for beyond the base booking, and define an overtime rate in advance.
