What Should an Invoice Look Like?

A professional Australian invoice looks like a one-page document with a clear hierarchy: the largest text at the top is the document header ("Tax Invoice" if you're GST-registered, otherwise "Invoice"). Below that sit your business name and ABN, followed by your contact details. The buyer's name and address appear on the right or below.

The middle of the page is a table of line items — each with a description, quantity, unit price, and line total. Below the table: a subtotal, GST if applicable (shown separately on its own line), and the total payable in AUD.

The bottom of the page shows payment terms ("Due 14 days from invoice date"), bank details (BSB and account number), and optional payment alternatives like BPAY or a Stripe link. Use consistent fonts, your business logo at the top, and aim to fit everything on a single A4 page.
