Should freelancers send receipts as well as invoices?

Send an invoice to request payment; send a receipt when it arrives if the client asks or pays by a method with no formal trail (cash, Venmo, Zelle). Many business clients file both — the invoice for the commitment, the receipt as proof it was settled.

How do I receipt a part-payment or deposit?
